Yamana Gold On-Deck this Thursday (AUY)
Yamana Gold Inc. (NYSE:AUY) reports Q4 earnings on Thursday (March 4th) and the Street is looking for earnings between 12 to 17 cents per share. AUY is holding steady today up 1.7% at $10.92 per share.
Last quarter Yamana delivered earnings of 12 cents per share when analysts were looking for 13 cents. Yamana's stock price is tied closely to the price of gold but tends to trade a tad more volatile, it has however outperformed the SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:GLD). In the last 6 months the GLD has moved up 15% and Yamana's stock has increased 19%.
SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) listed in New York, is the world's biggest bullion-backed ETF and the second-largest ETF overall. Investors big and small piled into GLD last year, which saw $13.8 billion in new net investment dollars in 2009. The fund now sits at over $35.4 billion in assets under management.
Back to Yamana, can the company beat Wall Street consensus call for a profit of $0.17 a share on $433.63 million revenue?
We'll just have to see but should the company miss and the stock price falls, it may be an opportunity to go long on gold by getting into Yamana on the dip.
Yamana shares have traded between $7.27 and $14.37 over the past 52-weeks, best of luck on the call for those of you holding positions.
