The other day, we posted an article about E TRADE Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:ETFC) being a takeover candidate for TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. (NASDAQ:AMTD).  Jason Schwarz makes a good point that a larger bank like Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) or JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) might be better suited for assimilating Etrade.

Shares of E TRADE Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:ETFC) have been treading water to keep afloat at around $1.50 a share, poking its head just above t close at $1.53 per share today.  Although it seems there are rumors afloat that E TRADE could be acquired by TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. (NASDAQ:AMTD), and why not? 

Etrade, Visa and RF Micro all Beat Street

E TRADE Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:ETFC): Q3 EPS of -$0.05 beats by $0.01. It seems at-risk delinquencies declined by 10% and provision for loan losses decreased by $57M to $347M. Shares are trading at -4.4% in After Hours, implying investors expected even better results. (more)

King of the Hill Fraud using E*TRADE, Charles Schwab, and Google

You can't make up something this good. A 22-year-old man has received 15 months in prison and must pay back $200,073 after trying to open more than 58,000 accounts with E*TRADE (NASDAQ:ETFC), Charles Schwab (NASDAQ:SCHW) and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) in the names of characters from the King of the Hill TV show (among others). The scheme was to steal the "micro-deposits," from 1 cent to $2, that firms make to test account functionality.

Goldman and Citi going to Bat for E*TRADE

Despite the massive short interest in E*TRADE (NASDAQ:ETFC), Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) gave E*TRADE a new 'Buy' rating today.  It appears Goldman is following suit after Citigroup (NYSE:C) raised its target price on ETFC shares 53% on Monday.  Dare to trade against E*TRADE?  More importantly, dare to bet against Goldman?

E*TRADE Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:ETFC) was the winner on the NASDAQ Exchange that experienced the largest increase in its short position from mid-to-late August.  In the last 30 days E*TRADE shares are up 23% and still trade under $2 -- could this be the calm before the storm?
