New Highs for American Express, CareFusion, and Viacom (AXP, CFN, VIA)
American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), CareFusion Corporation (NYSE:CFN), and Viacom (NYSE:VIA) are the big stars today pushing to new 52-week highs on a very bullish day.
American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) hit $37.44 a share today before settling back down to $37.32, up almost 4% for the day. In 2009 AXP shares are up 101% and the joy continues across the board for Visa Inc. (V) and MasterCard Inc. (MA) thanks to better-than-expected retail sales reports today raising confidence in a spending recovery.
CareFusion Corporation (NYSE:CFN) shares are up 6% today and hit a new 52-week high of $24.34. CareFusion shares are up after the company beat the Q3 2009 earnings expecations and raised their forward guidance. Investors are gitty thanks to CareFusion increasing its outlook for the full year to earnings per share of $1.35 to $1.45 from its previous forecast of $1.10 to $1.20, on revenue of $3.85 billion to $4.00 billion.
Viacom (NYSE:VIA) the company that controls MTV and Paramount Pictures, hit $31.58 a share and is trading up 3% today after its profit rose in the third quarter, but it was a performance achieved through cutting costs and shedding workers.
Viacom has cut about 850 jobs since the start of the recession or about 7% of its work force.
