Will Sprint and T-Mobile Merge? (NYSE: S),(NYSE: VZ),(NYSE: T)

It seems the rumor mill is still a buzz about a merger of Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S) and T-Mobile USA (owned by Deutsche Telekom).  If Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) continue to expand control over the wireless arena, the merger between Sprint and T-Mobile may just need to happen for the companies.

Here’s the thing though, Walter Piecyk of Pali Capital Inc. just is not on board with it.  Piecyk writes, "Never say never, hence we assign a 2% chance that DT (T-Mobile) buys Sprint within the next two years."
Piecyk also indicates that Deutsche Telekom's management has denied interest in Sprint Nextel, and the Obama administration's Federal Communications Commission likely would not approve the merger.
One other item to consider is the decision in November by Sprint to invest another $1B in Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR).  This would not be the action of a company that desires to merge with DT’s T-Mobile.
